The Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs has removed the Harbour Master of Alonnisos following a serious safety incident at the island’s port.

A ship’s mooring line snapped when passengers were boarding, causing panic and endangering passengers and crew.
Minister Vassilis Kikilias ordered an investigation into the incident which happened on 27 April 2025, tasking Coast Guard Commandant Vice Admiral Tryfon Kontizas with identifying the causes and assigning responsibility.
“There is zero tolerance when it comes to safety,” Kikilias said in a statement, describing the event as “extremely dangerous.”
