The 9th Dance Festival of Alonnisos an outstanding sucess

The 9th Traditional Dance Festival took place last weekend in Alonissos with the participation of approximately 600 dancers from all over Greece. The president of the Alonissos Cultural Association, Panagiotis Tsoukanas, speaking before the festival to Radio ENA and Dimitris Kareklidis, spoke of a three-day celebration and tradition, filling the island with the colors of culture. This year, Alonissos is also hosting a dance group of expatriates who live in New York, with Mr. Tsoukanas stating that it is important that from so far away they wanted to honor the island with their presence. This group consists of 47 people, of whom 25 are dancers and the remaining 22 are friends of their association. The festival is taking place for the 9th consecutive year in Alonissos, starting today, Friday, July 4, and ending on Sunday, July 6. Around 9 dance groups dance daily after 9 pm at the port in Patitiri, followed by a traditional feast.

"The festival is now an institution, trying to get better and better every year," he said and added that there are also parallel activities on the island that visitors can engage in, with Friday being the most interesting day of the rest, as the 27 dance clubs will form 27 circles, while a parade of dance groups will take place at the port, with the festival then starting. On Saturday, a beach party will be held on a beach in Alonissos and then the performances will begin. On Sunday morning, they will be guided to Palia Chora, where women from the island will offer them traditional Alonissos cheese pies and in the afternoon the performances will begin. The groups that will participate come from all regions of Greece, such as Crete, Orestiada, Kozani, with their number reaching 800 people, of which 200 are escorts.
