Northern Sporades Sub-Region is established

The new electoral bill of the Ministry of Interior introduces a Northern Sporades Sub-Region which was requested by Mr. Dimitris Kouretas, and also creates the position of a Special Secretary.

The Special Secretary will play an important role in the administration of the Region and will hope to strengthen effectiveness for the Sporades.

The creation of this role is based on the need to strengthen the democratic participation of the population of the Islnds. It identifies that the islands are subject to pressures and challenges that are not faced in mainland Thessaly. The Islands have diverse characteristics than that of the mainland.

The population of the islands can experience many problems in their daily lives, so their voice needs to be heard by the Region of Thessaly before any decisions are made which may effect Islanders differently than those on the mainland in the region
