Man arrested on Skiathos for a double murder

A 46-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday on the Greek island of Skiathos in relation to the murder of a newborn girl, whose body was found in a park in Rome earlier this week.

The man, an American citizen, is also suspected of killing the infant's mother, who was also a US national.

As reported by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the suspect escaped to Greece, seemingly to avoid law enforcement. Greek authorities located him by examining digital traces associated with his mobile phone.

Witnesses in Rome observed the man carrying the baby in his arms at a park in the city. Additionally, the suspect has been recorded on surveillance video in the Italian capital. 

Italian media also indicate that the man was recently engaged in a dispute with his wife in central Rome. He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time, prompting police intervention.
